I hope you’re doing well! I’m reaching out because, next week, Senator Tester is planning to make a critical floor speech urging Congressional action on tackling consolidation in the corporate meat packing and agriculture industries. As a working farmer in the Senate and a longtime champion of folks working in production agriculture, Senator Tester continues to be a unique voice in Congress advocating for the needs of rural America.
In order to amplify the Senator’s push for congressional action, we’d love to work with your group to show the groundswell of support that exists for anti-consolidation policies and legislation across Montana and the country. That could involve encouraging your members to tune into the Senator’s speech, composing a newsletter to members outlining proposed legislative solutions (more on that below), urging members to take to social media to magnify the message that consolidation needs to be addressed immediately, post support from your organizational social media pages, and/or sending out a press release with a statement in support of these bills.
In the coming days, we will be sending out draft messaging guidance, social media, and more information about how to encourage your members to tune into the speech. If you/your organization are interested in participating, please respond to this email with the best communications point of contact for your organization and we will be in touch with more details.
While we are still working out exact timing for the speech, we are hoping it will take place on Wednesday or Thursday, roughly coinciding with the Senate Agriculture Committee’s legislative hearing on Senator Tester’s bipartisan Meat Packing Special Investigator Act and Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act, which will occur at 10am on Tuesday, April 26th. We are hoping that Senator Tester will also be at that hearing to make the case for these bills before the committee.
