Senators Bring #FairCattleMarkets to Capitol Hill

On Tuesday, on the floor of the U.S. Senate, Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Jon Tester (D-MT) championed the cause of #FairCattleMarkets for U.S. cattle producers. Specifically, the pair urged support for their “50-14” or spot market bill (S. 3693 | HR 7501).

Earlier in the week, Senator Grassley told reporters that in order to get the bill passed, it will take, “just a massive uproar from the grassroots of the Midwest, where this has got the most support.”

This is that uproar.

The bill currently has 8 cosponsors in the Senate, including Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Tina Smith (D-MN), Steve Daines (R-MT), John Kennedy (R-LA) and John Hoeven (R-ND).

In the House, the bill only has 3 cosponsors: Reps. Cynthia Axne (D-IA), Abby Finkenaur (D-IA), and David Loebsack (D-IA).

Don’t see your Member of Congress on either list?

Give the Capitol Switchboard a call at (202) 224-3121 or send an email and let your representatives know just how important this piece of legislation is for the U.S. cattle producer.

We especially need support in the Senate and House Agriculture Committees – find out if your member serves on either committee by visiting theses pages (click the blue hyperlinked text):

We leave you with this #FairCattleMarketsChallenge: send this email to five more cattle producers; call or text five friends, neighbors, or colleagues; and share at least five different messages in support of this effort on social media.
Sign the petition.
